Nurturing Respect and Compassion: Building Skills for Ethics Consultation

Provincial Health Ethics Network Annual Conference and General Meeting
Red Deer, Alberta
May 14, 2004

What is the Goal of the Conference?

The conference will aim to build skills for those who are interested in using ethics consultation as a means of addressing conflict, distress and uncertainty in health care.

How Can Ethics Help?

Health care ethics consultation is a service designed to help patients, families and care providers explore ethical tensions that arise in the delivery of care. The emphasis is on elucidating underlying values and beliefs, engaging in respectful dialogue, and, where possible, facilitating consensus.

Who Should Attend?

The conference is open to all and will likely be of particular interest to health care providers, administrators and others who are often called upon to provide support in such difficult clinical cases, including social workers, spiritual care providers, psychologists, nurses, physicians and many other allied health professionals, as well as members of clinical ethics committees.
