Event Planning

Following are some points to consider when planning your activity.

  • What format will the planning team take? Will it be a large group or a smaller committee?

Audience

  • Who would you like to participate in your activity?
  • Who will benefit most from an initiative to discuss health ethics issues?
  • Will the participants be staff members, members of a particular committee, representatives from various service provider groups, or members of the public in your community?
  • Will the event be open to anyone?

Goal(s)/Objective(s)

  • What topic will your activity address?
  • Why are you offering your activity?
  • What would you like your activity to achieve?
  • Why is there a need for this goal to be met?

Activity

  • What form of activity is best suited for your context and audience?
  • What will the participants do during the event?
  • Will participants be required to do some pre-event preparation such as reading an article or completing a questionnaire?

Resources

  • What expert help and resources are available in your community?
  • Do you need to collect more information about your chosen topic?
  • Do you need to arrange for a speaker or facilitator?

Budget

  • Will you need to purchase supplies, refreshments, offer an honorarium to your speaker or rent space?
  • What will be the totally costs associated with your activity?
  • How will the costs be covered?

Publicity

  • How will the target audience become aware of your activity?
  • Will publicizing Health Ethics Week in general and other activities in your community be part of your publicity plan?
  • (Short on ideas? Refer to the next section of this guide!)

Evaluation and Follow-up

  • How will you decide if your activity was successful?
  • Are you planning to host activities following this one?
  • Will you require evaluation forms to be completed?
  • Remember to praise your staff for their dedication and planning, since that is already a giant leap towards accomplishing the goals of Health Ethics Week!
